My latest paintings are the Altar series, done in Oaxaca Mexico, in October of 2012. Five paintings of this series are now displayed at the Cassera Art Gallery, in La Conner, Wash.

Cassera is a leading edge gallery with great flair. The integration of tribal antiques with contemporary modern paintings work together with a special magic. The story telling of the tribal art and the paintings, combined with David Cassera’s expert knowledge, makes the gallery a delightful experience.  I will post the opening of the spring show as soon as the date is set, meanwhile, go in and check out the new show.

My Travel to Oaxaca, Mexico: New Inspiration…

I recently traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico to visit some women’s micro-loan co-ops. I took all my paints with high expectations to have the artistic muse visit while I was there. To my pleasant delight, the muse did visit me and a series of paintings unfolded. I was fortunate to  stay in a lovely local home, which had a painting of a family altar prominently displayed. Many know of Mexico’s Día de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead) which is about the family ancestors. The altars to past loved ones, displayed in many cultures, are incorporated into every day life in Oaxaco. These sacred altars are beautiful in spirit and visually rich. I created eight paintings in Mexico and mounted them at my studio. I was inspired to do these paintings as they are a new subject, yet they include all of the elements of nature that I love and respect. May you enjoy them as much as I loved painting them.
